Mino Nicolas (guest instructor)
Recognized internationally as an Artistic Director and regisseur of some of the dance greats of this century. Currently the Executive Director of the Doris Humphrey Institute and founder and artistic director of the acclaimed Doris Humphrey Repertory Dance Company, he continues to stage, direct and supervise productions of her work, and has done so for over 30 years. A direct exponent for the first generation of the Humphrey family, he is fortunate to have worked with many company members. He has trained with other dance greats of the 20th century, including Joyce Trisler, Martha Graham, Pearl Lang and Judith Hogan, who in 1979, invited him to perform with members of the Martha Graham Dance Company in an evening of new works. He has performed, staged and directed the works of not only Humphrey, but those of Isadora Duncan, Valerie Bettis, Eleanor King, Ted Shawn, Ruth St. Denis, Jose Limon and Anna Sokolow, who personally invited him to collaborate on two new works after witnessing his own choreography for which he received numerous commissions, accolades and grants for their originality. New York Times dance critic Jennifer Dunning praised his work for having "absorbed Ms. Humphrey's respect for craft and investitgation". Having the rights to the entire extant choreographic catalog of Humphrey, he is also co-owner of over twelve of her works.
